For citrus processors, transporters, traders and manufacturers across Vidarbha.
Nagpur applications are examined by the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, because Nagpur is in Maharashtra, even though Mumbai is several hundred kilometres away. Everything is filed and answered online from our Vashi office, so distance adds no delay. Without objection or opposition, registration commonly takes about a year.
The Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai. Nagpur is nearer to Jabalpur than to Mumbai, but jurisdiction follows the state of your principal place of business, not distance, and Vidarbha is part of Maharashtra.

Yes, but not the words "Nagpur Orange" on their own. Nagpur Orange is registered as a geographical indication, which protects the name for authorised producers from the region rather than for any one company. A trademark has to tell buyers which trader or packer the goods come from.
What a citrus business can register is its own brand: the packer's name on the crate (class 31 for fresh fruit), the juice or squash label (class 32), and marmalade or candied peel (class 29). If your fruit qualifies, the GI and your trademark can sit on the same pack.
Nagpur's other strengths bring their own filings:
Citrus processors and Itwari’s wholesale trade, the warehouse and MIHAN logistics belt, Vidarbha cotton and the IT firms at MIHAN: where each usually begins.
Class 29Class 30Class 35
Dairy and edible oils, snacks and staples, and the shop or online store.
Starting points only: the right classes depend on exactly what you sell. See the 45 trademark classes or search them in the class finder.
Day 1–2
We search the national register, not just Maharashtra, because a mark registered in Delhi or Chennai blocks yours just as firmly. For produce brands we also look for crowded words such as "Santra" or "Orange" that the examiner will treat as descriptive.
Before filing
We email Form TM-48; you sign it and return a scan. Before filing we check the goods description against what you actually pack, process or transport.
Filing day
We file Form TM-A online on IP India. Because the principal place of business is in Maharashtra, the application is handled by the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai. You receive the application number the same day and may use ™ with the mark.
Weeks to months
An examiner checks the mark against the absolute grounds (section 9) and earlier marks (section 11) and issues an examination report. Reports are published on the IP India status page; we watch it and tell you.
If raised
Objections are answered in writing within the time allowed. Show-cause hearings are attended by us, normally by video conference, so no one travels from Nagpur to Mumbai.
After acceptance
An accepted mark is advertised in the Trade Marks Journal. Any person may oppose it within four months of advertisement.
Unopposed
The mark is registered and the certificate is issued online. Registration lasts ten years from the application date and renews with Form TM-R.
Nagpur is far nearer Raipur and Jabalpur than Mumbai, and all three file at the same place: the Mumbai head office covers Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh alike. Its hearings may be held by video conference (rule 115).

No. It is a geographical indication and it describes the product and its origin. Register your own packer or trade name and use the GI alongside it if your fruit qualifies.
