What do Bhopal businesses usually register?
- Govindpura engineering units register the house mark stamped on equipment and parts, in class 7.
- Mandideep's pharmaceutical and consumer-goods plants often manufacture for other brand owners. The brand owner registers the product mark; the plant registers its own name only for goods it sells itself. Medicines are class 5, cosmetics class 3.
- Flour mills in Bhopal, Sehore and Vidisha sell atta in class 30. "Sharbati" names a wheat variety and describes the product, so it cannot be anyone's brand; the mill's own name or logo can.
- Zari-zardozi workshops sell embroidery and trims in class 26. Where many artisans share one craft, an association can register a collective mark that members use with their own names.
Trademark registration in Sagar
Sagar, north-east of Bhopal, follows exactly the same route: its applications go to the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, and we file them online from Vashi. We do not have a separate page for Sagar; this section covers it.
Sagar's traditional bidi industry deserves particular care. Bidi and tobacco products are class 34, and the brand is often recognised by the picture on the wrapper rather than by the name, which makes label and device marks as important as the word mark. Copies typically change the name slightly and keep the picture, so register the label as a whole. Registration does not relax the rules on tobacco packaging and advertising; the statutory warnings still apply.
Sagar's colleges and coaching institutes register in class 41, and its grain and pulses traders in classes 30 and 31.
How does a Bhopal or Sagar business register a trademark?
Day 1–2
Search and class advice
We search word marks and device marks, which matters for labels in classes 30 and 34 where buyers remember pictures. Hindi and English spellings are searched where you use both.
Before filing
Paperwork and authorisation
The owner signs Form TM-48 and returns a scan. Where a label has been printed for years, the earliest dated bill you can find supports the claimed date of first use.
Filing day
Filing with the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai
We file Form TM-A online on IP India. Because the principal place of business is in Madhya Pradesh, the application is handled by the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai. You receive the application number the same day and may use ™ with the mark.
Weeks to months
Examination
An examiner checks the mark against the absolute grounds (section 9) and earlier marks (section 11) and issues an examination report. Reports are published on the IP India status page; we watch it and tell you.
If raised
Objection reply and hearing
If the registry objects, we reply in writing and attend any show-cause hearing, normally by video conference, so nobody travels from Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai.
After acceptance
Journal and opposition window
An accepted mark is advertised in the Trade Marks Journal. Any person may oppose it within four months of advertisement.
Unopposed
Registration certificate
The mark is registered and the certificate is issued online. Registration lasts ten years from the application date and renews with Form TM-R.
What documents does a Bhopal business need?
Mandideep contract manufacturers add the agreement that says who owns the brand, because only the owner may apply. For a bidi or atta label known by its picture, send the label exactly as printed so it can be filed as a device mark.
Every applicant
- The mark: the word, or a clear JPG of the logo as it will be used
- The goods or services you sell or plan to sell
- Applicant name, address and legal entity
- Form TM-48 authorising the agent, which we prepare for signature
- If the mark is already in use: an affidavit of first use in India, with dated evidence of use
By applicant type
- Individual or proprietor: identity and address proof
- Startup: DPIIT recognition certificate, for the lower fee
- Small enterprise: Udyam registration certificate, for the lower fee
- Company or LLP: certificate of incorporation
- Partnership firm: partnership deed

Trademark registration in Bhopal: questions
Is there a trade marks office in Bhopal?
No. IP India has trade marks offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Ahmedabad. Madhya Pradesh is handled by the Mumbai office, and filing is online.
Which registry handles applications from Sagar?
The Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, the same as Bhopal. Sagar is in Madhya Pradesh.
Can I register "Sharbati" for my atta?
Not on its own. It names a wheat variety and describes the product. Register the mill’s own name or logo and describe the wheat beside it.
Can a bidi brand from Sagar be registered?
Yes, in class 34. Register the full label as a device mark as well as the name, because copies usually imitate the picture.
A Mandideep plant makes products for several brands. Who should register them?
Each brand owner registers its own product marks. The plant registers its own name only if it sells goods under it; the manufacturing contract should say so.
Can zardozi artisans protect a shared craft name?
An association of artisans can register a collective mark in class 26, used by members with their own names. A single workshop can register its own brand as an ordinary trademark.
