Filed under the Trade Marks Act, 1999 with the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai.
A Navi Mumbai business registers its trademark with the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, at Antop Hill, because rule 4 of the Trade Marks Rules, 2017 sends every application to the office covering the principal place of business, and Maharashtra is Mumbai’s. We file online from Sector 30A, Vashi. Without objection or opposition, registration commonly follows in about a year.
The Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, at Antop Hill. Navi Mumbai spreads across Thane and Raigad districts, both in Maharashtra, so an application from Airoli and one from Ulwe go to the same office and follow the same rules.

S-37, Nano Wing, Haware Fantasia Business Park, Sector 30A, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra 400703Every step of a Navi Mumbai trademark matter is handled by one office of the Registry. The rule that decides it is rule 4 of the Trade Marks Rules, 2017: the appropriate office is the one whose territory covers the applicant’s principal place of business in India, and rule 5 keeps it there even if you later move.
| Step | Office | What the rules say |
|---|---|---|
| Filing the application (Form TM-A) | Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai | Rule 4: the office covering the principal place of business stated in the application |
| Examination report and reply | Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai | Rule 33: reply within one month of receiving the report |
| Show cause hearing | Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai, listed on IP India’s show cause cause list | Rule 115: held at the notified time, and may be held by video conference |
| Opposition by or against you | The office where the application was filed | Rule 4 applies to oppositions under section 21 too |
| Moving the business after filing | No change of office | Rule 5: a later change of address does not alter the appropriate office |
The Registry’s office list and jurisdiction are on IP India. There is no Trade Marks Registry office in Navi Mumbai itself.
Vashi, Belapur and Panvel are in Maharashtra, so every Navi Mumbai application goes to the head office at Antop Hill, whose territory also takes in our own office. Show cause hearings may be held by video conference (rule 115), so a Turbhe or Mahape unit need not cross the creek for one.
Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra is handled by the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai.

The facts in the second column come from the official sources listed at the end of this page. The classes are where we usually start the search for that kind of business; your own goods decide the final list.
| Area | What the official record shows | Classes we usually look at first |
|---|---|---|
| APMC markets, Vashi and Turbhe | The Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Mumbai was set up on 15 January 1977 under the Maharashtra agricultural produce marketing law of 1963. Its onion and potato market is in Sector 18, Vashi; the grain and spice markets in Sector 19, Vashi; the fruit and vegetable markets in Sector 19, Turbhe. | 31 (fresh produce), 30 (spices, rice, flour, sugar, jaggery), 29 (dry fruits), 35 (trading) |
| TTC industrial area: Turbhe, Mahape, Rabale and the Thane–Belapur Road | MIDC set up the Trans-Thane Creek estate along the Thane–Belapur Road in 1963. It covers about 27 sq km and about 3,254 units making chemicals, dyes, bulk drugs, pharmaceuticals, textile auxiliaries, pesticides, petrochemicals and engineering goods. | 1 and 2 (chemicals, dyes), 5 (pharmaceuticals), 7 (machines), 35 (house mark on trade services) |
| CBD Belapur | CIDCO, the planning authority that built Navi Mumbai, has its head office at CIDCO Bhavan, CBD Belapur, 400614. | 36 and 37 (real estate and construction brands), 42 (design and IT services) |
Unit counts and areas are as stated in the July 2020 CEPI action plan for Navi Mumbai; they are not a current census.
The APMC spice and grain markets, the port trade around JNPA, the Airoli and Mahape IT parks and the developers of Kharghar and Ulwe, each with the classes it usually starts with.
Starting points only: the right classes depend on exactly what you sell. See the 45 trademark classes or search them in the class finder.
Wholesale traders in the APMC markets build their name on the sack, the crate and the bill. Buyers reorder by that mark, and a copier needs only a printer to borrow it. Registration lets you stop a lookalike sack in the next lane without first proving years of reputation.
Turbhe sits in the Trans-Thane Creek (TTC) industrial area that MIDC developed along the Thane–Belapur Road. Units here make chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates, packaging, rubber and engineering goods, and most sell to other businesses rather than to shoppers. That changes what is worth registering.
Avoid building the brand on the place name. "Turbhe Chemicals" or "TTC Polymers" describes where you are, and the examiner can refuse it under section 9 as a geographical indication of origin. A coined word, or the founder's name combined with a distinctive device, registers more easily and is easier to enforce against a copier in the next lane.
Day 1–2
We search the register for identical and similar marks in your classes and send the risks in writing. For APMC traders we also look closely at classes 30 and 31, where many produce marks share devotional or family names and small differences decide the outcome.
Before filing
We match the goods description to your invoices and prepare Form TM-48 for signature.
Filing day
We file Form TM-A online on IP India. Because the principal place of business is in Maharashtra, the application is handled by the Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai. You receive the application number the same day and may use ™ with the mark.
Weeks to months
An examiner checks the mark against the absolute grounds (section 9) and earlier marks (section 11) and issues an examination report. Reports are published on the IP India status page; we watch it and tell you.
If raised
If the examiner objects, we draft and file the reply within the one-month period. If a show cause hearing is listed, rule 115 allows it to be held by video conference, and IP India publishes the cause list and virtual hearing rooms; we attend for you.
After acceptance
An accepted mark is advertised in the Trade Marks Journal. Any person may oppose it within four months of advertisement.
Unopposed
The mark is registered and the certificate is issued online. Registration lasts ten years from the application date and renews with Form TM-R.
A Turbhe MIDC unit attaches its Udyam certificate for the lower fee; an APMC trader filing as a proprietor needs only ID and address proof.
The lower official fee is for individuals, startups and small enterprises as the Trade Marks Rules, 2017 define them. Proof of status goes in with the application, so collect it before we file.
| Who is applying | Typical Navi Mumbai example | Proof to attach | Fee rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual or sole proprietor | A trader in the APMC spice market, or a shop in Vashi | Identity and address proof of the proprietor | Lower rate |
| Micro, small or medium enterprise | A TTC chemicals or packaging unit with Udyam registration | Udyam registration certificate | Lower rate (rule 2 defines "small enterprise" by the MSME law’s medium-enterprise investment limit) |
| Startup | A Mahape or CBD Belapur software startup | DPIIT recognition certificate | Lower rate |
| Company or LLP | A private limited distributor in Turbhe without Udyam or DPIIT papers | Certificate of incorporation, board authority for the signatory | Standard rate |
| Partnership firm | A family firm trading in the fruit market | Partnership deed; Udyam certificate if the firm has one | Lower rate with Udyam proof, otherwise standard |
The amounts are in the fee table below. See trademark fees for the full schedule, with the date we last checked it.
Fees are paid to IP India for each class, at filing. Proprietors, startups and small enterprises pay the lower rate on proof of status; other companies and LLPs pay the standard rate.

One application per class, unless you file a single multi-class application. Fresh produce falls in class 31 and spices, tea and flour in class 30. If you also run a trading or distribution business under the name, class 35 covers those services.
Yes. The company name can be filed as a house mark and each product name as its own mark. Registering the company name with the Registrar of Companies does not give trademark rights.
The Trade Marks Registry, Mumbai. These nodes are in Raigad district, which is in Maharashtra, so they follow the same route as Vashi or Airoli.
Rarely on its own. A place name tells buyers where goods come from, so the examiner can object under section 9. Combined with a distinctive word or logo, it can be registered, usually with a disclaimer of the place name.
It depends on the goods or services, the dates of first use and whether the other mark is registered. A search shows the conflict before you spend on signage. We set out the options in writing, including coexistence or a change of name.
Yes. Bring ID and, for a company, a board resolution or authority letter. We print the TM-48 authorisation for signature and scan it into the application the same day.
Usually yes. The Trade Marks Rules, 2017 give the lower fee to a "small enterprise", which rule 2 defines by reference to the investment limit for a medium enterprise under the MSME law. The Udyam certificate filed with the application is the proof the Registry sees.
